● This is feasible, but uncommon. If your spouse has STI in his or her lips, he or she may be able to spread the illness to your mouth during a kiss. If your partner is infected, a kiss can transmit fever blisters and cold sores. Blood-borne illnesses such as HIV or Hepatitis B or C can only be transmitted by kissing if infected blood is exchanged. Kissing on the mouth will not spread an infection if your spouse has an infection in his or her genital area. Kissing the affected area, on the other hand, may result in infection transmission.
